There is broad agreement in the diverse organic sector on the need for more research, more technical assistance, and more education on organic. Join the Organic Research and Promotion Program Steering Committee for a debrief of USDA’s decision to terminate the Organic Check-off and a discussion about potential paths forward. We need to come together to explore public and private sector solutions that will have important and long-lasting benefits for organic farmers, businesses and consumers.

GMO Food Labeling Strategy Session 
Room 231
Speakers:  Gwendolyn Wyard & Colin O’Neil, Legislative Director, Environmental Working Group/Just Label It
The USDA is seeking stakeholder input on the establishment of a GMO labeling standard. We need to mobilize as an industry and flood the Federal Register with comments that reinforce organic as the gold standard for transparency and non-GMO status. Join us for an important “take action” session with the Environmental Working Group and Just Label It on an industry response plan. We will be providing an overview of the proposed rule and a run down on the issues that impact organic. Members will be given talking points and have time to ask questions and answers.

Finding Solutions Organically

This strategic working session based on “middle path” decision-making will explore the question “How can we support and bolster organic when government won’t keep pace?” Facilitating this exercise will be David Lively (Organic Trade Association Board member and Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Organically Grown Company) and Lynn Coody (Organic Agsystems Consulting), along with other Trade Association Board and staff.
