The OTA Calendar is full of events that are either organized or attended by OTA. We are pleased to organize and support dozens of events that advance organic agriculture and trade throughout the year. Some of these are signature OTA events hosted for members, while others are regional, national, or international conferences where OTA staff are featured keynotes and panelists. Whether we’re bringing the latest news and trends about the organic industry to diverse audiences, sponsoring business networking gatherings, or hosting listening sessions to gather feedback from the sector, you can count on OTA to be part of the action.

VIRTUAL EcoFarm Conference

VIRTUAL EcoFarm Conference

Wednesday, January 20, 2021 - 9:00am to Saturday, January 23, 2021 - 5:00pm

Save the date for the 41st annual EcoFarm Conference, January 20 - 23, 2021, taking place online!

This conference will feature the traditional learning opportunites and events such as keynote speakers, conference intensives, discussion groups, award ceremonies, 35+ workshops by track, and networking opportunities galore!

The Organic Center's Director of Science Programs, Dr. Jessica Shade, wil be featured on the following panel during the conference, taking place Wednesday, January 20 at 3:00 PT / 6:00pm EST.

How and Why Should Certifiers Address the NOP Requirements for Biodiversity?

Even though the National Organic Program (NOP) requires it, growers benefit from it, and consumers expect it, the NOP did not actually clarify what is meant by biodiversity until their published guidance in 2016. This has led to disparities in on-farm biodiversity strategies and certifier oversight, resulting in an unfair playing field for growers and certifiers. This workshop will focus on the importance of biodiversity for organic growers, disparities in biodiversity, tools that certifiers are using to ensure that farmers are in compliance, and farmer strategies for maintaining and improving biodiversity.

Speakers:

  • Sean Feder, CCOF
  • Dr. Jessica Shade, The Organic Center
  • Peter Martinelli, Fresh Run Farm
