The Organic Trade Association (OTA) continues to strengthen transatlantic collaboration on organic trade and policy. In a new video update from Warsaw, Poland, OTA’s Director of Strategic Projects Alexis Bramley and co-CEO Tom Chapman share insights from the 2025 European Organic Congress and iFOAM Organics Europe Summit.
📹 Watch the video update from Warsaw:
In the video, Bramley and Chapman highlight several key developments impacting U.S. organic businesses exporting to the European Union:
U.S.-EU Organic Equivalence Renegotiation: The longstanding equivalence arrangement between the U.S. and EU is currently being renegotiated due to updated EU organic regulations. OTA is actively involved in the discussions to ensure strong market access and clear benefits for U.S. producers and consumers.
European Court of Justice Ruling: The European Commission has yet to resolve the regulatory gap caused by the ECJ’s decision regarding labeling and equivalency. OTA is monitoring the situation and advocating for practical solutions that protect organic integrity and market continuity.
Shared Global Challenges: Echoing issues familiar to U.S. stakeholders, European organic leaders are focused on boosting consumer trust in the organic label, navigating overlapping sustainability claims, and using data to drive supply chain transparency.
"These international conversations are vital to protecting the future of organic trade," said Chapman. "We’re proud to bring the U.S. voice to the table as Europe shapes its next phase of organic policy."
Stay tuned as OTA continues to engage globally to represent the U.S. organic sector and ensure your voice is heard in key international forums.
