It’s not easy for an organic seed dealer in Oregon to get connected with that organic grain farmer in Iowa who’s in need of organic seeds, or the organic granola maker in California who wants to use environmentally-friendly containers to find out about the sustainable packaging company in Texas.

At nearly 14 percent of the total market for U.S. organic products, dairy is a major driver of dollar and volume sales in organic, with a $6.5 billion market in 2018. But for a second year running, the category has struggled to maintain positive growth.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. A little more than a year ago, the organic community realized it needed to take action to ensure the future of the organic sector.

The Organic Trade Association, in collaboration with The Organic Center, is hosting a series of diverse and informative webinars through the end of this year. Initiated at the beginning of 2019 to educate and benefit members and other organic professionals,  more than 1,000 Organic Trade Association members have registered for the ten webinars held up to this point. 

The hard reality for organic farmers – and farmers who want to go organic – is that the network of agronomists and technical service providers is often just not there to support growers through transition to organic and beyond.

Three outstanding individuals in organic agriculture who will receive Organic Trade Association’s Leadership Awards this coming September have much in common: they are passionate about organic farming, visionary in their advocacy for strong organic standards, and active in passing on their excitement and knowledge to foster further growth in the sector.
