The Organic Trade Association on Thursday announced the kick-off of a groundbreaking pilot project by the organic industry to prevent and detect fraud in the global organic system. 

As part of its annual Policy Conference today, the Organic Trade Association recognized Congressman Rodney Davis (R-IL) for his excellence in advancing organic agriculture through public service with the 2018 Organic Champion Award.

The Organic Trade Association on Wednesday applauded Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) for introducing the Organic Farmer and Consumer Protection Act, which would make significant strides to improve the oversight of global organic trade, create a level playing field for American organic farmers, and establish a better system to ensure the integrity of organic.

American consumers in 2017 filled more of their grocery carts with organic, buying everything from organic produce and organic ice cream to organic fresh juices and organic dried beans, according to the Organic Trade Association’s 2018 Organic Industry Survey released on Friday.  

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s action to terminate the rulemaking process to establish a national research and promotion program for organic (aka “Organic Check-off”) reflects a pattern of holding back forward progress on organic by USDA. The $50 billion organic sector offers opportunities for U.S. organic farmers and businesses.

Organic Trade Association CEO and Executive Director Laura Batcha on Monday was one of a panel of three organic experts headlining a special episode on organic on the eight-time Daytime Emmy award-winning nationally syndicated “The Dr. Oz Show.”
