Organic Produce Summit

Wednesday, July 10, 2019 - 8:00am to Thursday, July 11, 2019 - 5:00pm

The Organic Trade Association will be exhibiting at the Organic Produce Summit in Monterey, California taking place July 10-11, 2019. Come visit us at tabletop TT4! 

Laura Batcha, Organic Trade Association CEO/Executive Director, will be speaking in the educational breakout session titled "Organic Sales and Consumer Purchasing Analysis", taking place from 8:00 a.m. - 8:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 11th. Laura will be joined on the panel by Steve Lutz, Produce Marketing Association's Regional Vice President, and the session will be moderated by Kevin Coupe, Founder of MorningNewsBeat.com.

The Organic Trade Association will also host its first-ever Buyers Mission at the Organic Produce Summit during the morning of July 10th. Buyers in attendance will be from major retailers and importers invited from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Mexico, and others! Buyer profiles to come soon. As this is a limited time frame for meetings, supplier registration is limited and interested companies are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to guarantee a spot! In order to participate in the Buyers Mission, all of the products you promote must be USDA certified organic, produced in the USA, and made of 51% or more of U.S. based ingredients either by value (cost of the ingredients) or volume (against overall weight of the product).  This is the federal USDA regulation for participation and part of declaration you agree to when signing up for Organic Trade Association activities.  All supplier participants must complete Organic Trade Association’s onsite evaluation and a 6 month follow-up evaluation. Seoul Food & Hotel 2019 will return to Kintex, Seoul and already looks set to expand on its record breaking year in 2018. Seoul Food & Hotel, taking place May 21-24, provides participating companies with an opportunity to meet with key importers, distributors and industry buyers from retail, catering and hospitality trade across the of Korea. As a nation of ever-evolving tastes and with a variety of developing food trends, Korea is one of Asia's most important nations for launching new and innovative products.

Organic Trade Association will host a pavilion of 8 US organic companies at the trade show. The cost is $600 for new exhibitors to SFH, and $1,000 for return participants. Sign-ups will be taken on a first come, first serve basis with priority given to new exhibitors. Organic Trade Association shared booth space is already at full capacity for this year, but contact Alexis Carey for more information on how to get involved! 

Registration includes: Tabletop in OTA booth, 1 round trip economy transportation to and from Seoul, booked through OTA’s travel agent (excluding airport transfers), Hotel stay for 1 for the duration of the activity, Fascia and counter graphics, 1 Group dinner, and buyer dinner support.

Participants are in charge of their own travel expenses and other related costs. North American Agricultural Journalists [NAAJ] 2019 Annual Meeting

Sunday, April 7, 2019 - 9:00am to Tuesday, April 9, 2019 - 5:00pm

The 66th North American Agricultural Journalists [NAAJ] Annual Meeting will be April 7-9, 2019 in Washington, D.C.

During this meeting, sessions generally include a business meeting Sunday afternoon following by a pay-your-own group dinner, a variety of newsmakers followed by the banquet and writing awards celebration at the National Press Club on Monday, and visits with elected officials on Tuesday. Find full meeting agenda here.

On Monday, April 8th, at 2:00pm in the Crentz Room, Organic Trade Association's CEO/Executive Director, Laura Batcha, will be speaking on a panel titled "Civil War in Organics". The panel will be moderated by Ed Maixner (Contributing Editor, Agri-Pulse); the other panelists include Steve Etka (Policy Director, National Organic Coalition), Lee Frankel (Executive Director, Coalition for Sustainable Organics), and Dave Chapman (Executive Director, Real Organic Project).

Spring 2019 National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) Meeting

Wednesday, April 24, 2019 - 8:30am to Friday, April 26, 2019 - 6:00pm

The Spring 2019 National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) Meeting will be April 24-26 at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel in Seattle, WA. During meeting, NOSB listens to public comments, discusses agenda items, and then votes in a public forum. Detailed meeting information, including agendas, locations, proposals, and public comments will be posted below as it becomes available. All meetings are free and open to the public. From Wednesday, April 16 to Friday, April 26, the NOSB will meet to discuss: substances petitioned for addition to or deletion from the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances (National List), substances due to sunset from the National List in 2021, and guidance on the organic regulations. The Organic Trade Association’s Regulatory and Legislative staff (Gwendolyn Wyard, Megan DeBates and Johanna Mirenda) will be in attendance and providing oral comments.
