The OTA Calendar is full of events that are either organized or attended by OTA. We are pleased to organize and support dozens of events that advance organic agriculture and trade throughout the year. Some of these are signature OTA events hosted for members, while others are regional, national, or international conferences where OTA staff are featured keynotes and panelists. Whether we’re bringing the latest news and trends about the organic industry to diverse audiences, sponsoring business networking gatherings, or hosting listening sessions to gather feedback from the sector, you can count on OTA to be part of the action.

    USDA Agricultural Outlook Forum

    Thursday, February 27, 2025 - 12:00pm to Friday, February 28, 2025 - 12:00pm

    February 27-28, 2025

Crystal Gateway Marriott | Arlington, VA

The Ag Outlook Forum’s programs have consistently drawn a diverse group of farmers and ranchers, food and ag industry representatives, policymakers, government officials and non-governmental organizations, and this year was no different with 1700 attendees in person and thousands more online.

OTA will be participating in the Organic Outlook session:

    Organic Outlook

This session will provide an overview of the trends and recent developments in organic production and consumption. Presentations will discuss up-to-date information on the Strengthening Organic Enforcement Final Rule, the use of federal programs by organic farmers, and global trends in organic agriculture.

    • Moderator: Sharon Raszap Skorbiansky, Research Economist, USDA-ERS, Silver Spring, MD
    • AMS Policy Update: Looking at Enforcement Policy and Enforcement Progress
    • Speaker: Scott Rice, Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs, Organic Trade Association
    • Speaker: Julia Barton, Organic Farmers Association, Washington, DC
    • Speaker: Helga Willer, Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), Frick, Switzerland

Join OTA's Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs Scott Rice for this Organic Outlook presentation:

Strengthening Organic Enforcement, One Year On: Successes, Challenges and Opportunities

The Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) final rule represents the biggest change to organic regulations since the creation of USDA’s National Organic Program, requiring certification of nearly all operations in the organic supply chain, the use of import certificates for all organic product brought into the U.S., and the incorporation of supply chain traceability and organic fraud prevention into operation practices. These changes have introduced greater transparency, some industry challenges, and opportunities for growth.

If you’re looking for a comprehensive update on the organic industry, you’ve come to the right place! The Organic Trade Association (OTA) is the premier source of information about organic. The second half of this session will focus on government affairs and the current political landscape for organic in D.C. OTA serves as the unifying voice of the U.S. organic industry on Capitol Hill, proactively engaging year-round to promote and protect organic agriculture and trade through legislative and regulatory advocacy. Join us to learn the latest updates on the Farm Bill, the new Administration, the new Congress, the new Secretary of Agriculture, and OTA’s strategy for navigating this changing environment.

Inside Organic Workshop: Elevate, Educate, Communicate—What’s Your Organic Message?

Friday, March 7th 11:00am–12:00pm, Marriott Grand Ballroom F

Join organic advocates, leaders, fans and manufacturers for a collaborative in-person roundtable discussion focused on elevating organic attributes and “What is organic?”

    • What is the organic message you would like elevated?
    • What resources are already available to do this (there are a lot!)?
    • What does a roadmap look like to elevate messaging even further?

There is a lot of data and research available telling us what organic attributes consumers do and do not understand. We have data by generation—who’s thinking about clean products, who focuses on sustainability and who defines organic by no pesticides or soil health. We have research, too. What we don’t have is a collaborative mindset to translate all the great things about organic—integrity and impact on farmers, communities and the planet—to amazing social campaigns, media coverage or educational resources. We talk more about what organic isn’t than all that it is. So, let’s start talking and figure out what this industry really has to say about itself.  We look forward to seeing you. Positive, inclusive mindset requested. No RSVP needed.

    • Check back soon for info on speakers!

We look forward to seeing you at these sessions and engaging in these important conversations!
