2019 Dues Structure

We are always thinking about the future and the most effective ways to advance organic in an ever-changing environment. That is why, starting in 2019, the Organic Trade Association’s membership dues and annual fund structure will adjust to provide stability in funding for our critical government relations, media outreach, and market insights work. After careful deliberation, the Organic Trade Association Board of Directors has made a series of comprehensive decisions to ensure we have the resources to do the work you rely on us for. The work that no one else can do.

In case you are wondering what we are trying to solve with these changes, consider this:

  • We are currently reliant on a discretionary “Annual Fund” for a significant portion of our unrestricted income. This creates an unstable revenue stream.
  • Some members are paying more than their fair share—and some are paying less—on supporting basic operations for the trade association to function.
  • The single most reliable way to ensure we can do the work we need to do is to require budgeted income to come from membership dues.

The adjustments to the membership dues and annual fund structure offer a few key things that set us up for success and sustainability:

  • Create a stable revenue stream
  • Equitably share resourcing the organization across the membership
  • Support a less regressive dues structure
  • Adjust dues breaks to better reflect the current size and scope of the industry
  • Offer options for companies with multiple divisions
  • Allow for targeted issue-based fundraising to support special initiatives
