The Organic Trade Association’s 2025 U.S. Organic Exports Report provides a timely snapshot of how U.S. organic companies are competing—and succeeding—in the global marketplace. With U.S. organic exports now estimated at $3.3 billion, the report underscores the continued international demand for American-made organic products and the critical role exports play in the industry’s long-term growth.
Based on survey participation, the report finds that 61% of U.S.-based organic companies are currently exporting, with most exporters reporting years of experience and a strong commitment to international markets. Canada remains the top destination for U.S. organic exports, followed by Europe and Japan. At the same time, interest in new markets is rising sharply, particularly in the United Kingdom, mainland Europe, and Southeast Asia.
Looking ahead, nearly two-thirds of exporting companies plan to enter new international markets within the next two to three years, signaling renewed confidence in global expansion and long-term international growth strategies.
The report also offers a clear-eyed assessment of the challenges facing U.S. organic exporters. Companies cited price competitiveness, transportation costs, tariffs, and regulatory complexity as ongoing barriers to expanding exports. For companies not yet exporting, many indicated they would consider entering international markets if these obstacles were reduced—highlighting opportunities for policy, technical assistance, and market development efforts.
Together, the findings reinforce the importance of exports as a growth engine for U.S. organic and provide valuable insights for companies navigating an increasingly complex global trade environment.
