WHY GIVE?
Organic is positioned for success
2014 marked a major milestone when all of OTA’s priorities were included in the 2014 Farm Bill. We now need to make sure our hard-won provisions are implemented. OTA has it covered--with headquarters in Washington D.C., our policy staff advocates on your behalf every day with national policymakers and regulators.
“I think we should let consumers make their own decisions about what kinds of foods they purchase, and if there’s a market for organic products, we should support it.”
—Rep. Reid Ribble (R-WI), The New York Times, March 8, 2014
OTA’s promotion of organic has reached new heights
OTA turned up its media relations activities in 2014 to full throttle, resulting in OTA being quoted by AP, The Wall Street Journal, LA Times, and scores of other prominent newspapers, magazines and websites. OTA expanded its social media presence and launched its first-ever social media festival, reaching over 15 million consumers.
OTA takes on critical issues, helping shape solutions that directly affect your business
OTA is actively engaged in important regulatory issues, such as the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act. OTA staff works closely with regulators to ensure our food system meets the needs of organic consumers and that proposed solutions align with regulations being followed by organic farmers.
We’re up against biotech companies with real money, which requires resources and expertise to fight back. OTA advocates for you, whether it is a rebuttal that receives prominent play in an influential paper, or providing comprehensive resources for industry members and the media about organic regulations.
OTA is taking a bold step to broaden and diversify our footprint
OTA’s Farmer Advisory Council (FAC) gives a powerful voice to producers and enables them to collaborate on critical issues such as supply chain shortages, ongoing regulatory issues, and upcoming animal welfare legislation.
OTA worked with organic certificate holders to fine-tune a framework for an organic research and promotion program to support additional transition to organic acreage and promote the benefits of organic agriculture through research projects, education programs, and communication initiatives.
“We need to pay attention to growing the marketplace, to growing the infrastructure and having the research tools in place for organic farmers to solve technical problems, and thus to grow more acres as well as more organic farmers.”
—Marty Mesh, Executive Director of FL Organic Growers & Consumers
