Ecological Society of America Annual Meeting

Montana Organic Association Conference

The 13th Annual Montana Organic Association (MOA) Conference, "Cultivating Soils, Opportunities and Relationships,"will be held December 3-5 at the Holiday Inn in Bozeman, Montana. OTA's Senior Crops and Livestock Specialist, Nate Lewis, will be speaking on regulatory updates, the Organic Check-off program, and national organic policy issues on December 4th. Washington Organic Week - WOW!

Celebrate Washington Organic Week, WOW! this fall from September 12 – September 19, 2015. This year Tilth Producers is kicking off WOW! by co-hosting the Annual Harvest Fair with Seattle Tilth in Meridian Park, in the heart of Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood. The Annual Harvest Fair celebrates the amazing bounty found all over the state in the peak of harvest season with over 3,500 attendees. OTA's Senior Crops & Livestock Specialist Nate Lewis will attend. 

 

Organically Grown in Oregon Week

September 13th - 19th 2015 has been declared Organically Grown in Oregon Week (OGOW) by Governor Kate Brown.  The Governor's action came at the request of the Oregon Organic Coalition, which will coordinate an agenda of activities throughout the week, all designed to celebrate Oregon's organic agriculture. Gwendolyn Wyard, OTA's Senior Director of Regulatory and Techinical Affairs will attend as a keynote speaker. 

CCOF Focus Group: Economic Barriers to Organic Transition

Monday, June 22, 2015 - 12:00pm

OTA's CEO/Executive Director Laura Batcha will participate in a CCOF hosted focus group on the economic barriers for farmers transitioning to organic production on June 22 in Watsonville, California. The focus group participants will discuss regulatory, subsidy, and private industry models that support the transition of agricultural land to organic production.

National Organic Standards Board Meeting

United Fresh 2015

The United Fresh 2015 Show will be held from June 8-10 in Chicago, IL. OTA's CEO/Executive Director Laura Batcha will deliver a presentation titled "Why an Organic Check-Off Program?" on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 12:15 - 1:00 PM in the Fresh Tech Learning Center - Hall B, Booth #2650. 

Why an Organic Check-off Program?
In this late-breaking session, hear from the Organic Trade Association (OTA) on why the association has petitioned USDA to create an Organic Research and Promotion Order. OTA CEO/Executive Director Laura Batcha will explain OTA’s goals for a mandatory, industry funded check-off program, how it would work for organic produce growers and handlers, and what impact OTA believes it can have on the organic industry. This is your chance to ask questions and understand how this program may affect you.
