Session: Smart Rules, Smart Action for a Strong and Competitive Organic Sector
In December 2025, the European Commission published a targeted revision of the EU Organic Regulation, alongside a regulatory roadmap and the perspective of a renewed EU Organic Action Plan. While earlier discussions focused mainly on adjustments through secondary legislation and non-legislative measures, legal and practical developments have led the Commission to also open the Basic Act. This step has important implications not only for EU operators, but also for international trade, equivalence and global organic value chains.
This BIOFACH Policy Day session will examine how the proposed changes can best support sector growth while safeguarding organic principles, consumer trust and market integrity; how the revision and the renewed action plan interacts with the Common Agricultural Policy and national implementation; and how EU policy choices affect operators in third countries and international markets. The discussion will be informed by recent evidence, including insights from the Horizon Europe project OrganicTargets4EU.

Session: Organic, Regenerative and Outcomes-Based Agriculture in the Context of Nature Positive and Nature Credits
European sustainability policies and international initiatives are increasingly driving the transition from compliance-based agricultural models toward outcomes-based approaches, aligned with the emerging concepts of Nature Positive and Nature Credits. Within this framework, organic agriculture provides a robust regulatory and technical foundation, while regenerative agriculture offers an evolutionary pathway focused on ecosystem regeneration, biodiversity, soil health, and climate resilience. Their integration creates new opportunities to strengthen sustainability standards, certification systems, and the economic valorization of positive actions for nature. The seminar will explore how organic and regenerative production models can evolve from a practice-based to an outcomes-based approach, examining measurable environmental indicators such as biodiversity, ecosystem services, soil quality, and climate resilience. It will also discuss how existing standards, certification
tools, and new European initiatives on Nature Credits can be integrated, highlighting opportunities, challenges, and future perspectives for farmers, value chains, certification bodies, and institutional stakeholders.

Session: Organic & Regenerative: Driving the Future of Food, Beauty, and Textiles
Organic and regenerative agriculture is no longer limited to food production, but is increasingly shaping the future of beauty, textiles, and other non-food value chains. When integrated with organic principles, regenerative approaches offer a systemic response to climate change, biodiversity loss, and the sustainability challenges of
global supply chains. Companies and value chains adopting organic and regenerative models are now
called to demonstrate their positive contribution to ecosystems, raw material quality, and territorial resilience, moving beyond mere compliance toward the recognition of tangible environmental outcomes. This seminar will bring together farmers, brands, certification bodies, and international organizations to explore how organic and regenerative agriculture can drive the future of food, beauty, and textiles. Through value-chain perspectives
and company case studies, the discussion will highlight how these models can build truly sustainable, resilient, and ecosystem-positive supply chains.

Session: Fixing Life Cycle Assessments: Capturing the Full Value of Organic: Existing LCA approaches often fail to capture the holistic benefits of certified organic, regenerative, and perennial agricultural systems. This often results in organic and regenerative systems appearing less sustainable than high-input conventional farming. This session will explore a new initiative to develop and implement new, scientifically robust LCA best practice guidelines and data sets.
