During meetings, the NOSB discusses agenda items, and then votes on recommendations to the Secretary in a public forum. OTA Meeting Report

Organic Trade Association regulatory staff participated in the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) meeting held May 12–14, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska. OTA’s Spring 2026 NOSB Report provides members and the broader organic community with a detailed overview of key discussions, proposals, sunset reviews, and next steps impacting the future of organic policy and production.

Key Issues Discussed:

  • Residue testing and global supply chain oversight

  • e-Commerce organic labeling recommendations

  • Organic seed use and induced mutagenesis

  • National List sunset reviews

  • Certification streamlining and risk-based oversight

  • Livestock integration and agroforestry systems

Dr. Jennifer Tucker, Deputy Administrator of the National Organic Program, provided updates on certification streamlining efforts, risk-based accreditation approaches, and development of a Common Organic System Plan (OSP).

The National Organic Standards Board (Board) will meet to discuss the following topics: substances petitioned for addition to, or deletion from, the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances (National List); substances due to sunset from the National List in 2028; and recommendations on organic regulations.

The Board typically meets twice per year. Prior to meetings, the Board reviews written public comments and listens to oral public comments. During meetings, the Board discusses agenda items and then votes on recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture in a public forum.
