The OTA Calendar is full of events that are either organized or attended by OTA. We are pleased to organize and support dozens of events that advance organic agriculture and trade throughout the year. Some of these are signature OTA events hosted for members, while others are regional, national, or international conferences where OTA staff are featured keynotes and panelists. Whether we’re bringing the latest news and trends about the organic industry to diverse audiences, sponsoring business networking gatherings, or hosting listening sessions to gather feedback from the sector, you can count on OTA to be part of the action.

    It’s 2020 and COVID-19 is dominating our hearts and headlines. Although we can’t be together in-person right now, the work to advance organic continues and there’s no time to lose. The Organic Trade Association is prioritizing work that delivers the most value to our members through this challenging period. We are digging-in to understand the impacts to the organic sector and reshaping our programming to pursue solutions that meet our members’ distinct needs. We’ll start with breaking market intelligence from our CEO. The 2020 Board election results will be announced and Officers will be introduced along with key updates related to climate change and continuous improvement in organic. We’ll share our Member(s) of the Year (spoiler: it is impossible to choose just one). And before we open the lines for your feedback, we’ll engage you in a critical conversation about the future and why organic is more important than ever. As an added benefit of participating in our Virtual Annual Meeting, we will send you a member exclusive digital edition of our latest Organic Industry Survey—full of trends, forecasts, and an insightful addendum on the COVID-19 crisis. What is less understood is how these benefits are affected by the farming landscape around organic operations. Join Amber Sciligo, Associate Director of Science Programs at The Organic Center, who will be joined by two of the senior authors of a recently published meta-analysis, where you can learn about more about the study’s findings and these benefits from organic practices.

SIAL Canada is now the only event of its scale in Canada, with more than 1,000 national and international exhibitors from 50 countries hosting over 18,500 buyers from Canada, the U.S., and 60 other countries. SIAL Canada is the only national trade show that offers a complete range of food products under one roof to meet your customers’ expectations. The registration fee new exhibitors is $600 and for $1,000 for returning exhibitors. Because we have limited space at this event, each application is subject to approval. Participation is based on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to new exhibitors.     The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) Fall Meeting will be taking place October 27-29, 2020 in Cedar Rapids, IA.

    The NOSB will meet to discuss substances petitioned for addition to or deletion from the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances (National List), substances due to sunset from the National List in 2022, and recommendations on organic policies.

    The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) typically meets twice per year in various locations around the United States. During meetings, the NOSB listens to public comments, discusses agenda items, and then votes on recommendations to the Secretary in a public forum. Detailed meeting information, including agendas, locations, proposals, and public comments, will be posted below as it becomes available. For information on previous meetings, visit the NOSB meetings page.

    Organic Trade Association's VP of Regulatory and Technical Affairs, Gwendolyn Wyard, will be attending the meeting and submitting written and oral recommendations to the NOSB on behalf of Organic Trade Assocation Members.     Day 1 will have you rolling up your sleeves and finding solutions (Monday April 26, 2021)
    MEMBER DAY starts with a workshop on repairing the public-private partnership and advancing continuous improvement in organic. It’s been 30 years since Congress passed the law that established the national organic program. What should the future of organic look like for the next 30 years? A day of roundtable discussions and thought provoking breakouts will be finished off by a networking reception and celebratory dinner honoring our inspirational Leadership Award winners.

    CONFERENCE DAY, in partnership with Food Tank, will deliver a powerful collaboration that promises to bring to the forefront the complex issues surrounding organic food and farming. It will facilitate open and thoughtful discussions by organic industry leaders, policy experts, organic farmers, retailers and everyone in between looking for clarity on what’s happening now, how to prepare for the future and how to continue advancing organic. This is the first Food Tank summit focused exclusively on organic agriculture.

    ADVOCACY DAY is a meaningful way to lend your voice and help educate the nation’s top policymakers on the importance of organic. Members will work in small teams to attend hundreds of pre-scheduled meetings across Capitol Hill. We’ll toast a full day of advocating for organic with cocktails and appetizers, side by side with policy makers, during our Congressional Reception.

    The organic sector assembles to host the Organic World Congress (OWC), the world’s largest organic gathering, every three years. Drawing from the motto, ‘From its Roots, Organic Inspires Life‘, OWC 2021 will aim to provide organic and likeminded stakeholders working toward sustainable agriculture, value chains, and consumption with an opportunity to exchange their knowledge, innovations, and experiences. The congress offers momentum and inspiration to all who take part and is seen as a leading event for the global organic sector.
